KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) — Malaysia’s manufacturing sales rose 7.7 percent year on year to 163.9 billion ringgit (38.23 billion U.S. dollars) in August, official data showed Friday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the increase was primarily due to the double-digit growth recorded in the food, beverages and tobacco and electrical and electronics (E&E) products sub-sectors at 16.1 percent and 10.4 percent, respectively.
On a month-to-month basis, the sales value grew by 4.4 percent.
Export-oriented industries, which represented 72.7 percent of the total sales value, went up by 7.8 percent in August, while domestic-oriented industries expanded 7.6 percent.
For the first eight months of this year, the manufacturing sector’s cumulative sales value reached 1.24 trillion ringgit (289.21 billion ringgit), increased by 4.9 percent as compared to the same period of 2023. ■
